Safety The Main Thing Working In The Laboratory

Chemical laboratories are workplaces that have many potential hazards. This includes chemical solutions, chemical reaction explosions, and heat from equipment. Not surprisingly, people who work in a chemical laboratory must use personal protective equipment. The laboratory must also be equipped with work safety equipment. For that we can check the equipment and cabinets at the link below Malaysia’s biosafety cabinet.

As a chemist, I am no stranger to personal protective equipment and laboratory safety equipment as I have worked in laboratories for more than 10 years. Not only that, I have also developed safety procedures and new chemical laboratory equipment in the private company where I work. Apart from that, if you are new to the lab and want to know what the common safety equipment in the room is, you have come to the right place. Here are 15 safety tools in the chemical laboratory:

·        Laboratory coat

The purpose of a laboratory coat is to shield the body from dangerous chemical spills. Lab jackets come in two varieties: single-use lab coats and reusable lab coats. In biology and veterinary laboratories, disposable lab coats are frequently used, while reusable lab coats are employed in chemical labs.

·        Safety glasses

People working in laboratories risk having their eyes damaged by heat or chemical splashes. They must therefore wear unique glasses that are protected against any chemical and heat risks. There are two categories of eyewear: clear safety glasses and clear safety goggles. Ordinary safety glasses called “clear safety glasses” are worn to shield the eyes from dust and chemical splashes. Clear safety goggles are worn in the meantime to shield the eyes from dangerous chemical reactions and chemical splashes.

·        Shoe

You are not allowed to wear sandals or slippers while working in the lab. Why? Since neither can shield your feet from spilled chemicals or solutions. Typically, everyday shoes are enough for use as protection. However, in the laboratories of large corporations, safety shoes that are pressure- and fire-resistant are used. Additionally, if the shoes are worn outside the lab, plastic shoe covers may be offered to preserve the lab’s cleanliness.

·        Gas mask

They may create compounds or chemical processes that can release toxic gasses. Gas masks are therefore ideal for usage by you in order to prevent inhalation of these dangerous gasses. Depending on the type, gas masks might take the form of textile standard gas masks or unique gas masks with gas suction materials. For general tasks like creating uniform solutions, ordinary gas masks are typically utilized. When handling substances like hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, or other substances that contain hazardous gasses, protective gas masks must be used.

·        Face Shield

A face shield is used, as its name suggests, to screen your face from heat, fire, and hot substance spills. This device is frequently used to remove laboratory equipment that has been heated in an autoclave, to melt soil samples in a lab-scale smelter, or to remove equipment that has been heated in a high temperature furnace.

·        Hand Glove

Gloves protect your hands from splashing chemical solutions that can make your skin itchy or blister. The kinds of gloves used in the lab are usually made of natural rubber, nitrile, and neoprene. Regarding gloves made of natural rubber, some are equipped with special powders and without powders. The powder is generally made from starch and serves to lubricate the gloves for easy use.
